The effects of Brexit on unemployment security have not been confirmed yet.

The transition period of Britain’s withdrawal from the EU will end on 31 December 2020.

According to the current information it seems that those persons who have moved during the transition period from Britain to an EU country or from an EU country to Britain will remain within the scope of the withdrawal agreement and can transfer their employment and insurance periods also after the transition period.

It seems that payment of daily allowance during a job-seeking trip to Britain will end on 31 December 2020. The matter is still being examined, though. In addition, it is unclear whether the job-seeker has to return to Finland i.e. activate their job-seeking, although daily allowance can otherwise be paid from Finland regardless of where the person is staying.

YTK continues to co-operate with the Federation of Unemployment Funds in Finland, Kela and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health to determine the final answers to the abovementioned questions.

We will tell you more about the effects of Brexit once the decisions concerning unemployment security have been made.
