Support strikes and earnings-related daily allowance

As the postal workers strike continues, a number of trade unions have declared support strikes. If you are prevented from working by such industrial action that has no interdependent relationship with your terms of employment or working conditions, you can apply for earnings-related daily allowance from us for the duration of the obstacle.

In such cases the employee may, however, be entitled to receive salary paid by the employer for a maximum of 7 days. The employee and employer may also have agreed on payment of salary for a period shorter than 7 days. You are not entitled to receive earnings-related daily allowance for the period for which the employer pays you salary.

If you are prevented from working, you need to register in the TE Office as a job-seeker. Take with you your employer’s certificate stating for how long a period you are entitled to receive salary from the employer.

When the employer’s obligation to pay salary ends, and the other conditions for the payment of earnings-related daily allowance are met, and there are no hindrances, we can pay you earnings-related daily allowance on application for the duration of the of obstacle. No waiting period shall be set in that case, because the unemployment is caused by such industrial action that has no interdependent relationship with your conditions regarding employment. Thus the period of daily allowance can start as soon as your employer’s obligation to pay salary ends.
