Special adjustment period
When you are in part-time employment you can also apply for earnings-related daily allowance. The earnings-related daily allowance is adjusted, which means that the salary from the part-time employment is taken into account in its amount.
As a general rule, the adjustment period is either one month or a period of four consecutive calendar weeks, depending on the pay period. Special adjustment period has been used when a regular adjustment period includes periods for which the applicant is entitled to receive full unemployment benefit or for which the applicant is entitled to receive no unemployment benefit.
The adjustment of unemployment benefit was streamlined with an act that entered into force on 11 May 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic in such a way that special adjustment period was abandoned temporarily. Thus the adjustment period and the application period for the benefit have exceptionally always comprised of either four consecutive weeks or one month, even if the period includes days for which the applicant is not entitled to receive a benefit. The salary and the working hours which it is based on are taken into account in the adjustment of the benefit, even if the salary were paid on such a day for which the applicant is not entitled to receive a benefit.
Abandoning the special adjustment period has simplified the implementation of unemployment security. The number of customer service contacts concerning adjustment has decreased, and the applicants consider the decisions concerning adjusted benefit to be more just and understandable than before. The number of complaints is also felt to have decreased while the exceptions have been in force.
The Parliament has passed the Government proposal according to which the special adjustment period will be out of use until 31 December 2022.
Payment of benefit without a decision
The same amendment extends the possibility to pay unemployment benefit on the basis of an application as advance for a maximum of six months. That possibility will be in use until 31 December 2022.
