Delays in the processing of first applications over the summer

We apologise for the long processing times of first applications in July and August.

The law says that unemployment security cases should be processed within 30 days. YTK’s internal goal is to process applications within 14 days of the receipt of the application. This summer, we have not been able to reach this goal with first applications. At its longest, the processing time was 26 days. Currently, the processing time for first applications is about 17 days, and the situation is constantly improving.

The delays were due to the fact that the number of first applications was much higher than anticipated. We have long-term data that we use to estimate our processing times and the number of employees needed. Normally, these estimates are very accurate but this time they unfortunately were not.

There are no delays in the processing of follow-up applications. With first applications, we will back to the normal 14-day processing time in approximately two weeks.

We are very sorry for this situation and would like to apologise. We hope that this has not caused unreasonable difficulties for you. We are making every effort to put what we have learned from this to good use in the future.

Fact of the month

We received 4,328 first applications in July. That’s a 15% increase compared to the same time last year.

Amount of earnings-related daily allowance increased

An additional index increase came into force in August. It will increase the amount of earnings-related daily allowance. With this index increase, the monthly amount of earnings-related daily allowance will rise by 15–20 euros on average.

We have updated our allowance calculator accordingly. You can use it to get an estimate of your earnings-related daily allowance.

Although the amount of your daily allowance will change, we will not send you a separate written decision. If you need a written decision, you can request one from us.

The index increase also increases child increments and the threshold value used in the calculation of earnings-related daily allowance.

If the pay on which your earnings-related daily allowance is based is small, your earnings-related daily allowance may not necessarily be increased by the index increase. This is because the law states that the earnings-related daily allowance may not exceed 90% of the daily pay on which the allowance is based. In this case, the index increase is overridden by the rule that limits the maximum amount of the earnings-related daily allowance.

Usually index adjustments are made once a year. This index increase is an additional adjustment. The next time the index will be adjusted is at the turn of the year.

Don’t lose your money

Autumn is here and many of you start working part-time. This is a typical situation for people who work in educational institutions, for example. You can also apply for earnings-related daily allowance while working part-time, so don’t stop applying for it.

When you are working part-time, we can pay you an adjusted daily allowance. In this case, the amount of your earnings-related daily allowance depends on how much you are paid in your part-time job. You can use our earnings-related daily allowance calculator to see how much allowance you would get after starting a part-time job.

So even though you start working part-time, remember to keep your jobseeker’s status active and continue applying for the allowance. You can read more about adjusted daily allowance on our website.
