Employees posted from Finland are still covered by Finnish social security and unemployment insurance while working abroad.

An employee posted from Finland

  • A Finnish employer posts you to work in a different country.
  • Your unemployment contributions and membership fees of the unemployment fund are still paid to Finland.
  • Thus you are still covered by Finnish social security and unemployment insurance while working abroad.
  • Working abroad is included in the condition regarding employment in the same way as with work done in Finland. The requirement for the working to be taken into account is, however, that your membership in a Finnish unemployment fund remains in force.

When you return from EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, USA, Canada Quebec, Israel, Chile or Australia, we request from you the A1 certificate of the Finnish Centre for Pensions. The Finnish Centre for Pensions shall decide whether you are covered by Finnish social security during your post abroad or not. In the unemployment fund we need the certificate to be able to determine that the working accumulates your condition regarding employment.

When you return from countries other than those mentioned above, we request from you a decision by Kela on having been covered by Finland’s social security on the basis of residence during your working abroad.
