Working part-time is a good option if you cannot find a suitable full-time job. Even during staff lay-offs, your employer may offer you the possibility to work part-time instead of being completely laid off.

Unemployment security takes part-time workers into consideration. You can apply for earnings-related daily allowance even if you work part-time. We will take your earned income into consideration when we process your application and calculate the amount of your earnings-related daily allowance. When you earn money by working part-time, we will pay you a little less earnings-related daily allowance than if you were completely unemployed. This is called an adjusted earnings-related daily allowance.

The terms and conditions are largely the same as with earnings-related daily allowance in general. The most important thing is to make sure that you are our member, you have met the employment condition and you have registered as a job seeker.

The main rule to keep in mind with adjusted earnings-related daily allowance is that your working hours may not exceed 80% of the working hours of a full-time employee. The exact number of hours depends on the collective agreement, but typically it is around 30 hours per week.

How much adjusted earnings-related daily allowance can you pay me?

The amount of your adjusted earnings-related daily allowance depends on how much your full earnings-related daily allowance would be and how much money you earn by working part-time.

The average adjusted earnings-related daily allowance is about 37 € per day. You will, of course, earn a salary on top of that. The way the system works is that when combined, the salary from your part-time job and the adjusted unemployment allowance will be more than what you would get if you were completely unemployed and only received an earnings-related daily allowance.
