Unemployment funds start paying mobility allowance to their members from the start of 2017. The purpose of the mobility allowance is to encourage accepting a job further away than receiving unemployment benefits would otherwise require. The amount of mobility allowance is equal to the basic daily allowance without the increases (approx. 700 euros per month) and it is paid for a maximum of 60 days from the beginning of the employment. The mobility allowance could be used for example to commuting or expenses from moving. Mobility allowance must be applied for before the start of the employment. You will find the mobility allowance application here (in Finnish). You can send the application at earliest on 1.1.2017. Mobility allowance can be applied for electronically, by sending the form through the Send attachments service or by email email@example.com.
Mobility allowance payments require that
- you are entitled to unemployment benefits,
- you accept employment that lasts as least 2 months and where the working hours are at least 18 hours per week and
- the commute in full-time employment is altogether over 3 hours per day and in part-time employment altogether over 2 hours per day.
When calculating the commute, the time spent changing transportation with the waiting times is also taken into account. However, for example time spent taking the children to the daycare is not included.
