Working in service to such international organizations, in which Finland as a country takes part, prolongs the examination period of the employment condition. The employment thus prolongs the 28 month examination period during which the person must fulfill the 26 calendar week employment condition. The examination period can be prolonged for a maximum of seven years. These organizations include the UN (and its subsidiaries ILO, UNESCO and UNICEF) and other international, governmental organizations like the EU, OECD, WTO, World Bank, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic Council.
- However, working for, for example, the International Red Cross does not prolong the examination period of the employment condition. The Red Cross is not a governmental organization.
- Please notice that working in the UN peacekeeping forces can be read towards your employment condition in Finland.
