An entrepreneur, who permanently resides in Finland, can join an entrepreneur’s fund. There are two funds meant for entrepreneurs in Finland: Suomen yrittäjäin työttömyyskassa, (SYT, Finland's entrepreneurs' unemployment fund) tel. 0800 97144, and Ammatinharjoittajien ja Yrittäjien työttömyyskassa (AYT, self-employed persons' and entrepreneurs' unemployment fund) tel. 0800 9 0888
A former employee starting his/her own business can, however, continue his/her membership in an employees' fund for a maximum of 18 months. This is the so called post-protection period. In a wider sense, post-protection is the period during which
- a person who has turned from paid employee to entrepreneur and has become unemployed is entitled to unemployment daily allowance based on income as an employee prior to the start of the entrepreneurship, or
- a person who has turned from entrepreneur to paid employee and has become unemployed is entitled to unemployment daily allowance, after meeting the employment condition for entrepreneurs, based on income as entrepreneur.
As a member of an employee’s fund you cannot accumulate the entrepreneur’s employment condition work, so in order to do that you need to transfer to an entrepreneur’s fund.
